Jacques Yves Cousteau

It seems the whole world discovered a sudden admiration for Jacques Cousteau after seeing The Life Aquatic by Wes Anderson.

I grew up with his films, they were very popular in France in the 80's.
There was something about the imagery, the music, and the staged scenes happening "spontaneously" on the deck of the boat..

Today he's remembered as the Earth saviour and the protector of fresh water in the world! But did you know he started as a military? That during a war mission he was said to have abandoned his team mates while they were being imprisoned and tortured? That he pulled strings in the army to whitewash his anti-Semite/collaborationist brother Pierre-Antoine Cousteau? Did you also know that he started observing fishes by throwing big explosive charges in the sea, making all the fishes die and thereby float?

Movie: Rushmore

Rushmore is one of my favorite movies.
I think it's so prefect, it's hard for me to like the recent Wes Anderson films...
It stars a young Jason Schwartzman, with big eye brows, having a hard time accepting reality. A total delight.

If you haven't seen it, you definitely should !

Copycat i mean Submarine !

Last night i went to see Richard Ayoade's film Submarine, and.. how do i say this..

I felt like i had seen that submarine..

That Oliver guy, he reminided me of someone..

maybe Harold from Harold & Maude ?

I don't know, there's something about the way he swims..

with a suit, like Harold..

And.. i've seen that hat somewhere..

oh yes ! here !

but I mean, it must be a coincidence..

His dad studies the depth of the ocean...

just like he did in The Life Aquatic,

Oliver meets Margot, i mean Amelie, i mean Jordana !

and they seat by the sea, cause it's not romantic

and you know, Jordana is so cute

so they ride a bike

Etc... etc... you got my point..
And in addition to all those copy pastes, this movie contains everything it should contain
a polaroid camera

a polaroid wall

typewrited cards with multiple choices

a retro stereo, a caleidoscope and so on..
So my question is: did we need that movie ?
*cough*

Movie : The Darjeeling Limited

Well, without any surprise, last Wes Anderson's movie is is just perfect. Inspired, full of colours, images, references, little ditails, and smart subtle jokes.

and it starts with a short movie called Hotel Chevalier, with really well written dialogues.
